Went to Lauderdale last night to the classy-ass beach strip and after getting harassed by a man selling a wooden horse, a characature artist, and being successfully booted from a pool hall, it was time to make the trek back to Miami. Finally met CAMBRIA and hung out with Paige and Tiffany, one of which is the culprit of a few bruises I found this morning in embarrassing places.... TIFFANY.
So apparently the bouncer kicked me out, just as I was about to leave, and FOR ONCE I really didn't do anything wrong! Ironic as hell. The one time I don't do something completely inappropriate I get booted from an EMPTY pool hall? Hahahaha What about the creepy old man hitting on teenage girls? That's acceptable? Whatevs, Dont. Care.

Good Riddance, 2008!
It's Christmas day and I'm just about to get ready to go to Hollywood to hang with my family, keeping the 20-some year tradition of an overwhelming day of gluttony of food, presents, and hopefully alcoholic beverages. I guess this is where I am supposed to reflect on 2008 and make some promises of change for 2009.
But instead, I'd rather go through my top 10 moments of 2008, whether funny, random, ridiculous, or all of the above. In no particular order:
1. The day I watched the sun come up at a random house in downtown, and realized I was stranded. It must have been around 9am, and the only thing I knew to do was to call Paige. Considering I had NO money and NO car, Paige came to save the day. She told me to call a cab, and she went to the ATM, got out some money for me, and I was dropped off looking way worse than I probably felt, at the Sagamore, where Paige was working at the time. I got out of the cab, still in my heels and made the walk of shame to the pool deck where Paige was already sipping a bloody mary. Those were the days. I'm 100% positive we went out that night, too.
2. Telluride summer trip. I went on a private plane to Telluride, Colorado, where I spent 4 days with my best friend J. We went to a bluegrass festival, got drunk pretty much all day every day, and managed to come out of that trip closer than ever, after a few ups and downs. There is no place in the world I love more than Telluride, and no one I love more than my J! So it was a pretty sick trip, seeing the small town GREEN instead of snow-covered, as I'm used to.
3. The Chromeo show at the Fifth, South Beach. All of my friends from the grove, and the party kids were all in one place rocking out to one of my favorite live shows of the year. That same week, I'm pretty sure we saw Girl Talk at The Rat, too, so I just remember (barely) being really happy that I finally had all of my friends at the same venue with great music and lots of over-priced drinks! Whiz, Jennifer and I got pretty fucked up. That's always good.
4. LANGERADO! It was my first Music Festival ever, and though the trip to Big Cypress took longer than expected after Jennifer and I passed the exit 10 fold without realizing it, I still had one of the best weekends of my life. We saw some amazing shows, met some crazy-ass hippies, and finally on the last day (because of the shitty cell phone reception) we finally found Whit and Amanda, who were just as exhausted but content as we were. My favorite of the shows, which most of my friends know, was the nighttime Ghostland Observatory show, which featured the sexiest man alive, Aaron Behrens, a laser light show, and some sweaty dancing, while simultaneously getting pregnant watching Aaron sing. (no, really, just looking at him gets your eggo preggo.)
5. My 21st birthday. Just epic. I went to the Vagabond that Thursday night for an awesome celebration and countdown til midnight. I had a chocolate penis-shaped cake baked by the lovely Fiorella, and enough free drinks to make me feel really special, considering the majority of the hipsters I know are the cheapest human beings alive. Hey-- I'm not hating. It's true and you all know it :) Then I hopped on a plane to NEW YORK CITY, where I got in the day of my birthday to Greenpoint. It was rainy and cold, but nothing could stop Paige, Tiffany and I from having a fucking amazing night. We met up with Ryan and Jake at some swanky sushi restaurant, and I had so much fun that weekend, that I made a video of it, which I'm sure I've made most of you watch over and over. I explored the city with Jake, had brunch with Pagina and Jones, and had so much fun that I decided to move there for (the majority of) the summer. My friends really made my birthday epic.
6. Alexi's First McCarren Park Pool Party. Holy shat!!! It was amazing! Cold War Kids were playing, the sky unleashed its wrath upon hundreds of sweaty hipsters, I played on a giant slip n slide, got really fucking wasted, and partied afterwards on the coolest rooftop in Brooklyn! It was one of the first few days I was "living," in New York and it really set the tone for the rest of the summer. I really had never been so happy in my life than being able to dress like a fool, dance like a 6 year old on acid, and drink beers like I stole 'em! I think I may have actually stolen 'em. I dunno.
7. Camping in Key West! This was an excellent weekend. After having run 9 miles in the wee hours of the morning, I went over to Jonas's house, where we loaded the kayaks on to the car, packed up, and drove all the way down to mile marker 30 to do a little fishing, kayaking, and drinking. It was SO MUCH FUN. We met up with the rest of the crew, Whit, Monte and some fucking insane Aussies, and played Wizards (after every can of beer, you tape one to the next trying to eventually surpass your own height in beers.) It was a retarded night of singing, cooking, and playing on the beach. Jonas and I took some time to drunkenly explore the area of Bahia Honda, found some secret fishing spots, and really had a great time. I'm dying to go camping again!!!
8. Jaelyn coming home to Miami! We had way too much time apart and honestly, I'll never forget the look on her face when I showed up at the airport to get her while she was waiting for baggage claim. I NEVER park and go in and she always asks me to, so I decided I wanted to surprise her, and we made the HUGEST SCENE ever in the Miami airport. Then I took my princess in my magical carriage (Ok, fine, my beat up VW Golf) and we drank 2 really expensive bottles of wine that were hidden in her moms house, and later on in the weekend we brought the camera and went to South Beach and took some really amazing photos. It just felt awesome having my Jalie back in Miami!!!
9. Morning coffees with Whiz. Even though this isn't ONE exact day, it was really something special that we had going basically this entire semester. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I would go to my 8am class (bleh) and at 9:15am I'd cruise over to Whits, drink some coffee, have a smoke, and watch Golden Girls before she had to get ready for work. I guess I should probably talk about how amazing our Project Runway/Family Dinner nights were too, considering I'm on the topic of fun times in the grove house. My master chef Whiz would prepare a delicious dinner while we watched the previous week's PR for either the 2nd or 3rd time, and then when the new episode was on, me, Whit, Christian and Dax would all bring our dinner into the living room, smoke some pot and watch and critique the episode together. Yeah-- We were INTENSE!! hahahah!
10. Definitely have to add something in there about the huge commitment I've made to this half marathon training group. Giving up my Friday nights, and pretty much my Saturdays to devote to running this race has been probably the best thing that I've decided to do this year. As you can tell from all the other fun times that I've listed above, most of them have been pretty fucking wild. And FUN they were. But with this commitment I've made to basically change my life, I really am a lot happier than I was before. Yes- when my alarm goes off at 4:45am to wake up to run 11 miles, I sometimes question WHYYYY AM I DOING THISSSSS!!! But the best feeling I've had this whole year has been how much better my life has become with this change of pace. Absolutely everything is going amazing in my life right now, with school, work, friends, family, and I'm in the best shape I've been in since--- ever? Oh-- and I have a pretty awesome guy in that mix too. :)

Week of Hell
I feel out of breath, basically. I have been so non-stop with these finals that I'm surprised I'm even finding a moment to write. If you don't know, I'm in the middle of my last REAL round of finals at the University of Miami. Next semester, with classes such as Introduction to Painting and Health and Fitness, I don't think I'm going to have too much to worry about... But this semester, these 5 classes are kicking my ass, but luckily, I'm a ninja.
4 down, 1 to go... Well, sort of. My advertising campaigns class consists of ONE campaign for the entire semester, as a group of 5, and we're down to the wire. The plans book is due at 3:30pm today and we have our presentation for the campaign next week. I got REALLY, REALLY lucky with the group members this time around (I think I deserve it after some of the nightmares I've had to deal with...) and we're wrapping everything up today. FUCK YEAH! Let's get 'er done! (yeah I said it!)
What else? I got a much-needed visit from Mr. Jones this weekend! Hey New Yorkers, when you see him in a dope DC hoodie, ask him what beautiful princess gave it to him for his birthday! Ha!
Whit cooked a bomb dinner last night of chicken and scalloped potatoes, which was devoured by Jonas and I. (Monte's under the weather.) Whit got 2 new AWESOME bowls for Christmas (love my friends hahaha) and so the future is lookin good. :-)
I caught up with a MISSEDDD friend yesterday, too. Glad to hear everything is awesome with him.
Paigey comes in town the 19th! Fuck yeah. And Jonas's birthday is Tuesday, we're going to check out that new bowling place in Sunset, Splitsville, Fun! So that was a total scatter-brain recap of where I'm at... But hey- at least I found a few minutes to catch up.

Whit cooked a bomb dinner last night of chicken and scalloped potatoes, which was devoured by Jonas and I. (Monte's under the weather.) Whit got 2 new AWESOME bowls for Christmas (love my friends hahaha) and so the future is lookin good. :-)
I caught up with a MISSEDDD friend yesterday, too. Glad to hear everything is awesome with him.

Considering I'm in the middle of fucking FINALS DURING ART BASEL, the few hours I had to chill, Whiz and I went to downtown to check out specifically the Friends With You exhibition in Midtown. I Fucking Did It.
Yesterday I had one of the best days ever! Someone special came down to visit me, and we spent the day playing in the park and catching up. Fresh Market lunch, sushi dinner, in bed by 11..... AND THEN....
My alarm ("Can't Get Enough," by Depeche Mode) rang in my ear in what seemed like the middle of the night... Well, it sorta was considering it was 4:45am!!!! Somehow got out of bed, threw on my clothes, and went with my mom to the "Long Run Saturdays," which these days is sounding a lot more fun than any other ______Insert Cheesy Party Name Here_____. On our way, at a little past 5am, with hundreds of drunk drivers swerving and blasting obnoxious music, we hear a police car's siren, signaling us to pull over. What. The. Fuck.... Some douche fag South Miami Police officer pulled us over for not changing lanes with a signal??
Well... not only was I pissed off and tired, but my efforts of waking up when I usually come home after partying were put up in the air, because we all know how long it takes to write a fucking ticket.... retard po-po...
So I'm freaking out because once you actually make the effort to get everything together, sanity excluded, you actually sorta WANT to run. So my mom turned on the tears, and I turned on my attitude, told the officer, "You fucking idiot, do you not see the hundreds of cars screaming by us, full of drunk fucks when we're the ones that are actually on our way to RUN??? You are a piece of shit! Fuck you!"
Yeah.... my mom loved that one.
So when I realized it was going to take a while, and I only had like 10 minutes until the runners were going to start, I decided to book it, BY FOOT to the hospital, where we start the runs, only to find my mom had caught up with me. Moral of the story, I ran 10 miles before 8am, and police can suck it.

Super Bowl Commercial
Hey everyone! So some of my classmates entered a contest for Doritos for a chance to win a 30 second spot (commercial, for all you non-comm students) during the Super Bowl this year. The more views, the better chance they have to win. And to be honest, I really think they have a shot. If they make the top 5, their commercial will be aired during the Super Bowl, and if they win America's vote, they will get a million fucking dollars. This, money aside, will change these dudes' lives having had a spot run during the Advertising industry's biggest night. Camping in Key West
Last week, Whitney told me she was planning a camping trip for this weekend. One of the trillions of reasons I love Whitney is that she comes up with DIFFERENT AND FUN things to do, and somehow, we make them all happen! (Monster Truck rally, fashion shows, concerts, and our next venture, Improv classes!) Soooo, I made my plans, packed a bag and got ready for a Saturday-Sunday camping adventure in Bahia Honda, 37 miles from Key West.
Friday night, we watched Kickball at Peacock Park, where I discovered there was something missing in my life. I was stoned and had raisins, so it wasn't hunger. It was Kickball. So, in a few months when the Kickball league starts up again (they have coolers of vodka punch in the dugout, and spend more energy dancing to the blasting music on the field than they actually do playing the sport), I want to make a team!-- Another thing to look forward to for 2009! Ha... oh life's simple pleasures...
On our walk back to the Grove houses, we chatted about the camping details, and forced a few (in)different words out of Monte, and we had our plan ready for action. 9am Saturday, we'd all take off for the Keys! Before I could get too excited for camping, I had to get home and to bed circa 9:30pm for my 5am wake up call to run *gaspp* NINE MILES! Yes, that's right. NINE! Almost there....
Before I knew it (I think...) the Benadryls hit me like a bus, couldn't even make it through my recorded Californication from last Sunday (it must have hit me hard because that is hands down my favorite comedy on tv). And after what felt like a solid blinking of my eyes, my obnoxious alarm, plugged into the wall on the other side of the room, which forces me out of bed, rang... no... SCREAMED at me to get the fuck up. Banana, coffee, cool Polar watch, and I'm out the door at 5:30am.
I parked at the lot at South Miami Hospital, and as I was walking to where our group meets, I see an SUV with a bunch of drunk kids hanging out the window telling me to, "FUCK OFF RUNNERSSSSSS gipuraehiugohen!!!!!" Don't hate me cause you're going to be coming off your drugs while I'm on mile 9, assholes.
Run's over, it's 8am, and I have an hour to shower, pack, reconsider what I packed, and end up settling for some not-so-smart clothing options, but HEY whatever. I'm a city girl! Met up at Jonas's house and we loaded the kayaks on the roof of his car, which is fucking harder than it looks, and took off for The Keys.
Whit, Monte and the Aussie kids all headed for some sorta noon pub crawl drinkathon all the way down at Key West, and Jonas and I took the kayaks out for some fishing. We stopped at some tiki bar, picked up beer, and paddled around by the mangroves to try to catch some fish for dinner. Success! Well... not for me, really, all I did was get the line caught in the mangroves, then tangled, but hey, I tried. I was a damn good beer-delivery service, and I think Jonas would agree.
The fishing took longer than expected, and so by the time we made it to the campsite, the rest of the group had already been playing this Australian drinking game called Wizard. See photos below... But basically the idea is that you duct tape together all the beers you have drank individually and, which starts to form a Wizard's Staff, and if the staff reaches your own height, you are a Wizard. Big fuckin' deal, I know... but YOU try it and see how much fun it ends up being!!!
----Cut to the bbq part. Burgers, sausage, and some dank veggie burgers on the grill, and later the Mangrove Snapper that Jonas and I (kinda...) caught! Amazing feast, my staff was at chin level, and I'm pretty sure MGMT and Calvin Harris made their very first Key West debut! Ha... You can take the girl out of the scene.... you finish that.
And blah blah blah drinking, pictures, beach exploration, bridge adventures, and I was sleeping like a baby by midnight. 8:30am, everyone's awake, popping their pills of choice to quash (I really like that word) their hangovers. We stopped at the Cracked Egg for brunch, and we were headed back north to the land of angry drivers and Starbucks.
It was, even through the hangover, an unbelievable morning. The weather was perfect, cloudless, in the 60's, and I know a few of us wished we could stay another night. But reality calls... and it bites.
