NRWO
So technology is freaking me out... I am listening live to Nothing Rhymes With Orange on Clyde1 Radio in Scotland while they play a live set and get interviewed! They are currently in the UK doing a tour promoting their Hello Mysterious album, which is definitely one of my favorites (if you are ever in my car you know it's pretty much a given to hear the lovely Delray Beach boys blasting in my stereo).
Anyway, just wanted to remind you all about these guys, I've blogged about them a bunch in the past, but just in case you forgot: www.myspace.com/nrwo or nrwo.net to check them out!
Here's a video from the last time they were in London:

Music at Crazy Hours
Well, I'm going to name a few songs that I'm a sucker for, and feel free to judge me... cause really... Don't. Care.
Postal Service- Such Great Heights

Hercules and Love Affair- Blind

Joy Division- Love Will Tear Us Apart

VHS or Beta- Can't Believe A Single Word

David Bowie- Pressure

Smashing Pumpkins- Tonight Tonight

Interpol- Heinrich Maneuver

The Bravery- Believe

Arctic Monkeys- Dancing Shoes

Alkaline Trio- Radio

The Pixies- Into the White

Oh yeah-- Did I mention I don't care what you think of my crappy 5am taste in music? Cause I don't! :) Hey at least I didn't put any Saves the Day on this list? :)

FIGO + Tommie Sunshine
FIGO is my best friend's band from NY that is made up of some very talented guys that throw down a very unique industrial electro sound mixed with some angry rock n roll to create a dark sound that somehow still makes you want to dance to it, scream along with the words, and blast it in your car when you just caught your girlfriend cheating on you.
And so, Tommie Sunshine seemed to agree with my opinion that these guys have created some some seriously hot tracks, so he decided to remix "Plaza," which turned out KILLER! Here is the music video that was made by a fan to the remixed song. It's funny how perfectly the video goes with the song, and actually captures what I always have imagined to be going through the FIGO guys' minds during a show! Ha! Check it out.

Live Music Review: NRWO
So Saturday night, Whiz and I ventured out to see the band, Nothing Rhymes With Orange at the Titanic in Coral Gables. The show consisted of three sets, 2 of which were the full band, the other being an acoustic duo featuring Carl Almasy, the lead singer, and his brother Rich Coccaro on the guitar. They played my personal favorite Nothing Rhymes With Orange song, "Love Poam," which they had not played for a long time, and even did a Billy Idol cover of "Dancing With Myself," which obviously made Jennifer, Whiz and I dance our drunk asses off.
They played a great variety of some older songs, some newer ones, and some AWESOME covers! "Kill the Vibe," "Billy the Kid," and "Just Passing Through," were awesome, and it seemed like the band was all on the same page, they looked great, sounded great, and they're all amazing guys. They venture off to New York, in the beginning of September (meaning all you crazy NYers better be out there supporting them!) and then to Europe for quite a while. I was stoked for this show, and it surpassed my expectations. Downside: after about 6 shots of Jameson, a few Whiskey and Cokes and a shitton of beer, I ended up spending way too much money, but come on! Special times call for stupid decisions!
Here are some pics from that night, and as you can tell, most of us were not too sober....

Look who decided to show up!

Rich and I:

Yeah rock n roll, ALEXI = DRUNK

Whiz and Jennifer:

Carl and I:

Choke hold for trying to make them sing "Magnolia?"

Derek, Derek, and Rich!

These guys are awesome!

Music Babies Check it Out!
So today my lovely, talented, beautiful, intelligent Jaelyn showed me this website The Pirate Bay , which is a program that allows you to download full albums at a time. It even lists the tracks for you, so you can see what you're downloading, gives you a description about the band, ratings of the album, and suggestions of bands you might like, based upon your searches.
If you have limewire already, the website sends the album to your limewire and then directly to your iTunes without even having to go through the bullshit of using 3 different programs. Also-- what I like the most, is that I am completely OCD when it comes to my organization of my music (the misfits vs. misfits vs. THE MISFITS really pisses me off) so you're going to have a clean iTunes library, too. Not that anyone really cares about that besides me.
Anyway, check it out, it's a great tool, especially if you're looking for new music. There are also some Electro mixes I've stumbled upon, and some dj recordings which is always fun to check out.
Word up.

iTunes Update!
Zero to...
So this morning I woke up and decided that, after losing 3,000+ songs when that BASTAHHHD stole my laptop, today is going to be the day that I start re-building my sacred iTunes library. I've been going at it since about 9:15am and I am already close to 400 songs! Attention friends with good taste in music, I'm going to need some suggestions asap. It's crazy how it took me almost an hour to remember to download my precious Nirvana.
Interesting note: The first 2 artists I started guerilla downloading were The Rakes and The Arctic Monkeys.
Hmmm.... SEND ME SUGGESTIONS because I know I am missing some key artists!! Thanks.

Lunch time!
So Jake is on his way to Miami and I just had a silly video chat with Paige and Ryan about topics such as popsicles, sexual intercourse, and tap dancing. Yeah. My friends are cultured, I know.
Anyway, MIami, check out tomorrow night as Jake Destruction kills the stage at PS14 in downtown! I'll be there with my dancing shoes on, so if that's not reason enough to go, press the red "x" at the top of your screen to exit this blog.

Do it!
Mmmm, brains...

Guest Blogger: Jennifer's Critique of Vampire Weekend show
I went to the Vampire Weekend show last night with my buddies Jennifer, Whitney and Christian. I asked Jennifer, a self-acclaimed music snob, to write me a little recap of the night. Here it is:
"Last night New York buzz band Vampire Weekend popped their collars a little higher in the sweltering heat of Miami Beach and played the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre. Considering the four young men, who are being touted as one of the finest things in indie rock, cancelled their performance at South Florida's Langerado Music Festival a few days before they were about to perform back in March to play Saturday Night Live, they repeatedly claim that the Miami crowd and it's venue were the nicest they had ever encountered.
Though VW had a "rather small repertoire" and only 2 new songs, that they had written while on tour, they strummed and banged with delight for the sold out crowd who shouted and pubescently "moshed" to the dreamy tunes they'd all had grown enamored with...
blah blah blah my 5 minutes were up! gaba gaba harlem shakes were just okay...VW were awesome and better have pyrotechnics and people only over the age of 21 next time around...your mom!"
__________
Thanks Jennifer.
Now my take on the show. 90% of the "pit," crowd had braces and probably hadn't located their pre-pubescent weenies yet, so to be honest, that was a huge buzz kill for me. A few of their songs were definitely dance-worthy, but I found myself more zoned into the sexy coked up drummer and he-grows-on-you-keyboardist than the actual music, while my friends slobbered over Ezra, the frontman.
A few off-key notes and missed backup vocals isn't enough for me to say it was a BAD show... But honestly, I would have preferred to see them at Studio A, or a venue that doesn't allow 15 year old "MOSHERS," in the joint. Maybe that would have made the atmosphere better. If you've ever heard Vampire Weekend, it's easy to see why I'm hating on the mosh pit so much. Here's a taste of VW... they're fucking Piano rock, not SKA, so to all those 12 year olds at the show last night, take your stupid spaz dance elsewhere, and say Mazel Tov to your older brother, I heard he's getting Bar Mitzvahed this weekend.

Super Professional Amazing Video!
Hello friends,
So last night as I was choosing what video I wanted to upload to youtube from New York, I decided it'd be so much better to just combine them all into one, because uploading takes SO long. So here is the video I made using iMovie with clips from my trip to New York in May. The music was very carefully chosen, and this literally took me a couple hours so just watch it and tell me how amazing I am.
Sidenote: yeah it's 9 minutes, but just watch it without skipping. It's pretty cool in my opinion.
Cool. Enjoy.

between the music and the obi's excitement for realizing he has fire trees, I think this short video clip represents a lot of why my friends are cooler than yours.
