Movie Review: The Strangers
The Strangers is a horror movie based on actual events that takes place in a secluded beach home community. This movie jumps right into the action only lasting a little over an hour in duration. There was really no background story, the movie basically starts off with an almost broken up couple arriving at a family beach house after a wedding. The whole movie consists of the two main characters hiding and running from three masked strangers who are trying to kill them. The movie is full of horror film cliches including the girl running for her life and then eating it hard, the boyfriend leaving the girlfriend alone in the house, and the classic misuse of obvious weapons. I mean don't get me wrong there were several parts in the movie that had me closing my eyes and jumping out of my seat but overall the plot was pretty LAME. When the two characters were finally tied up and ready to be killed, I braced myself for a gruesome slaughtering. I was hoping for torture, humiliation, or at least lots of guts. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, they just stabbed them a few times and not even with force. It was oddly disappointing. Its like they might as well have tickled them to death or killed them with kindness. I mean seriously, if you are creepy enough to wear an expressionless mask, I'm pretty sure you can pull off good old fashion torture. I don't know about them but if I was in that situation I would have made myself my own mask and been like, "Hey guys I'm on your side. . .I'm new. . .Who are we killing?" If you can't beat them join them.
Overall opinion: Save your money! Go rent an old school horror film, at least you know its going to be cheesy before you watch it. Oh and what happened to Liv Tyler. . .not that hot anymore. . .damn you child birth.
